Beverly Prater was born January 28, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois, from the union of the late Archie L. Prater Sr. and Mildred Prater of Chicago, Illinois.
Beverly was the eldest of six children, with five brothers. Darrell Prater, and Archie L. Prater Jr. proceeded in death, Eric Prater, Chicago, Illinois, Stephen Prater, Fayetteville, GA, and Anton Prater, Chicago, Illinois.
Beverly graduated from Austin High School and Malcom X College with an Associate Degree in Applied Science-Secretarial. She worked as a dispatcher for the city of Chicago Midway Airport and as a Claims Processor for Access Community Health Network.
Beverly, affectionately known as Bev, married the love of her life, Chris Brown, on July 23, 1979. From this union, one son, Terrell Prater.
Beverly enjoyed reading, computers, volunteering, working at women's homeless shelters, and advocating for the disenfranchised. She also loved the arts, music, movies, going to concerts, and spending time with friends and family.
A well-lived life ended on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, when Beverly D. Prater, age 69, quietly moved from this earthly home into a long-awaited rest.
She leaves to cherish her memories one son: Terrell Prater (Shea), two granddaughters, Line’a, Bolingbrook, Illinois, Leslie Lester, Oswego, Illinois, and great granddaughter Zaire. Also mourning her passing are a host of family and friends, and her best friend, Lillian Davis.
