OBITUARY
Leon Hendry was born on March 25, 1926 in Liberty County, Georgia to Richardean and Henry Hendry. He was the eldest of three children born to this union. His siblings, Martha and Mary preceded him in death. Leon was educated in the school system of Liberty County.
On October 13, 1946 Leon was united in holy matrimony to Jacqueline Gloria Morse. To this union 4 children were born: Marion (Mickey), Alja, Gloria Roxanne, and Denise. This was a special love in so many ways. It wasn't until Jackie and Leon received their marriage license that they both realized they also shared the same birthday, March 25th.
Leon was a kind and loving husband and father. A man of patience to all, loyal and trustworthy. A man of his word, a man you could depend on. He was faithful and taught by example-loyalty, trust, faith, work ethics.
He maintained a steadfast work record, having enlisted and served faithfully in the United States Air Force for 221/2 years. He received an honorable discharge upon retirement in 1967, at a young age. Upon retirement
from the military, he relocated to Chicago, Illinois for employment at United Air Lines. There he worked as a cook for 251 years, maintaining an impeccable standard of attendance and work ethics there. Still a young middle age man, Mr. Leon could not sit down and enjoy retirement although he enjoyed golfing and doing yard work. He then found employment as a messenger, delivering mail to banks and businesses. He was later employed by the Village of Bellwood as a school crossing guard where he faithfully worked for over 15 years, finally retiring at the age of 89.
Leon confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. He later accepted Christ as his Savior and was united with Alpha and Omega Baptist Church in 2010 under the pastorage of his godson, Pastor Ricky Harris. He was a faithful and dedicated member and loved his Pastor and church family, which was reciprocated by their love for Bro. Hendry.
Mr. Leon made his transition on September 14, 2018. Leon was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline; his son, Mickey, his daughter, Gloria Roxanne, his parents, Richardean and Henry Hendry, his sister, Martha Hendry, and sister Mary Sams.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted son, Al (Regenia), loving daughters, Denise, Deborah (Rudolph); grandchildren: Paul, Michael (Aquarius), Debra Jones, Ginger (John Boyd), Jason, Joi (Tim Rice), Erica, Ryan, Jonathan, Rachael, Jordan, Ashley, and Jackson; 13 great- grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Barbara (Joe Jones), Gwen McNeal, and Wesley Hendry; sister-in-law, Sharon Laws; brothers-in-law, Louis Sams and Raymond (Mazie) Morse; special nieces and nephews, Judy, Ray, Marvin, Donald, Darryl, Leona, Debra, Ernest Carter, Joyce (Bobby Hawkins), Benjamin (Annie Elliott); life-long friend/sister, Betty Mims; special families, Arthur and Elaine Meaux, Pastor Ricky and Elaine Harris, Kendall and Etrenda Faber, James and Fonda Williams, Aaron and Lisia Morrison Shirley Madlock and Xion, Audra Burrell; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
