Renita Roxanne Pettigrew was born on June 2, 1954 in Jonesboro Arkansas to Glenda and Kenneth Pettigrew, moved to Chicago in 1955 where she grew up on The Southside. She graduated from Lowe Upper Grade Center in 1968, and attended Simeon High School for one year, before transferring to Fenger High School, graduating in 1972.
Pursuing her dream of becoming a hairstylist, she enrolled in Pivot Point School of Cosmetology in Evanston. While attending, she managed her uncle’s restaurant Pizza Ribs and Things, in the evening. Upon graduation from Pivot Point in 1974, she worked at Mr. James Hair Salon, honing her skills. In 1978, with the help of her loving mom, they opened Renita’s Hair Salon. She ran that shop for 20 years, retiring to have her beloved Courteney, who she spent the next 26 years raising to be an amazing adult. Simultaneously, caring for her mother.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her mother Glenda Pettigrew, her daughter, Courteney, her aunt Tina, her niece Paris, her best friend and cousin Tonette, cousins Tracy, Jordan, Derek, Mertis(Sweet Pea), and Vivian. She was preceded in death by her father Kenneth Pettigrew, brother Ronald, her aunt Gloria, and her uncles Sonny and Bob. She leaves to mourn a host of loving family and special friends.
