Steven Vance Carr, better known as Stevie V, was born in Chicago, Illinois on august 3, 1958 to the late Sandra G. Graham and Wilkin Carr. Steven was the third of seven siblings. His sister Marcia and brother Lawrence preceded him in death. Steven accepted Christ at an early age at Bethel Lutheran Church.
Steven attended Gershwin, Beale Upper Grade School and Gage Park High School. He joined the R.O.T.C. in high school of which he was very proud to be a part of.
Stevie learned to paint in his teenage years from his friend Michael Martin's dad. After some years of working with Michael and his family, Stevie started his on business called V's Painting.
Stevie also was a DJ, along with his mom, for his step fathers Percy Graham's Entertainment Company named The Family. Back in the day, Stevie formed a social club named the Honore VO's with his home boys.
Stevie worked for the Zayer store chain. His professional work ethic got him promoted to manager quickly. He was able to hire his friends Sonny, Murphy, Tony Rome and others in the neighborhood. He dressed for everything (even going to the doctor) and was always prompt. Stevie later started working with Melvin Bryant's decorating company and personal jobs in which Melvin worked with him until his health started declining.
Stevie loved drinking his beers, playing poker, fishing, watching old cowboy movies and sports on T.V. He loved dancing and singing to his favorite jams. Stevie had the biggest heart, if he had it and you needed it, you got it!
Stevie met Venita Hill and together, in 1980, they had the love of his life his daughter Gevenia. Later, in 1993 he was wedded in Las Vegas to Brenda Winston until 2016.
Stevie leaves a legacy of love to be cherished in the hearts of many: his daughter Gevenia Stokes (John), five granddaughters: Kourtney, Keyocha, Kyrah, Kamia and Kaliyah. One grandson John Lee. Three great grandchildren: Avah, Josiah and Chayce. Sister Dana (Charles), brothers Greg Jr., Jeremy and Dekari. His auntie Carol. And a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends. A very special life long friend Karlene, life long friends Verna, Butch, Rita and Clay. Lil Bill whom he called his son.
