Yvonne Annette Arroyo, the daughter of Marie Lester and Clarence Akbar Bibb, was born September 25, 1945 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was one of two children, a sister preceded her in death.
Yvonne enjoyed the gift of learning from a young age and excelled in her studies. She attended grade school and high school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and later went on to attend Cheyney State College (now Cheyney University) where she was inducted into the Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Society. Yvonne, a top student, graduated second in her class. She then went on to earn her Master’s Degree at Temple University in Philadelphia.
Love for the Latin language and culture, inspired Yvonne to study abroad in Spain for a year, to increase her speaking skills. After some time, she moved to Chicago and began teaching English as a second language to primary students at Spry Elementary and later New Field Elementary Schools in Chicago. Her appreciation for the culture included traveling as well. Yvonne really enjoyed traveling which took her to Spain and Mexico several times.
The love for books, her beautiful skill in writing and great sense of humor, enabled her to write numerous clever poems for friends and associates. Her most impressive works were three beautiful books she wrote for children. Through these she hoped to help children and adults alike enjoy reading and have a few good laughs at the same time.
Yvonne and her winning personality will sadly be missed by children and adults alike. She leaves a cousin Charles Bibb, his two daughters, the staff at Spry and New Field Elementary Schools, her birthday buddies, her closest friends and scores of students to cherish her memory.
